The new facility will begin operating in later this year.
Following the Mebane expansion, BD will keep its present Burlington facility. The Burlington facility employees about 100 people in the BD Diagnostics-TriPath unit manufacturing cervical cancer screening products.
In 2008, BD said that it will construct a new plant in Wilson county and expand the existing Durham county facilities which will create 274 jobs. During that time, the company planned to invest $134.7 million in Wilson and Durham counties over the next five years, according to BD officials. At that time, the company employed about 600 in Durham county.
