Baxter International, an American healthcare company, has introduced a digital image capture feature for eye examinations with its existing Welch Allyn PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope.

According to the company, the iExaminer Pro System introduces a significant technological enhancement to standard eye exams. It is designed to improve healthcare professionals’ capacity to assess and diagnose patients’ eye health, said Baxter.

The PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope, equipped with the iExaminer Pro System, now allows for smart device connectivity, facilitating image capture for in-depth analysis.

It enables healthcare providers to seamlessly transition from an optical examination to digital image capture. When combined with the iExaminer Pro App, clinicians can securely store and share eye images for tracking and trend analysis, leading to more informed consultations with specialists, said the company.

Baxter front line care president Jim O’Connell said: “Healthcare settings have never been more demanding, and clinicians need their tools to offer improved efficiency and accuracy that ultimately allows earlier care for patients.

“The iExaminer Pro System uses the latest tech, allowing providers to spend more time focusing on the thing that matters most – their patients.”

The iExaminer Pro System has been integrated with Baxter’s Welch Allyn MacroView Plus Otoscope since 2021. The incorporation of digital image capture for eye exams underscores its ongoing dedication to enhancing patient outcomes through connected devices during routine physical examinations, said the healthcare company.

Furthermore, the company said that both the PanOptic Plus and MacroView Plus tools provide clinicians with larger perspectives compared to standard ophthalmoscopes and otoscopes. The tools also include features such as long-lasting LED lamps and DuraShock technology for enhanced durability.

Available in the US currently, the new offering will be exhibited at the upcoming American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition and American Academy of Family Physicians Family Medicine Experience conference, later this month.

Baxter front line care medical affairs head Julie Jakubowski said: “Examining the structure of the eyes is a critical part of assessing patient health.

“The PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope with iExaminer Pro System helps to enable healthcare providers to catch issues early on in a primary care setting, easily collaborate with specialists, and facilitates patients getting the diagnosis, care and treatment they need in a timely manner.”
