Bausch + Lomb, a global eye health company, has appointed Rodney Unsworth as new president of Asia-Pacific (APAC), effective July 1, 2010. Mr Unsworth will succeed David Edwards, who will continue to advise the company during a transition period.

Mr Unsworth had served as president of Asia-Pacific for Schering-Plough from 2004 until its merger with Merck in 2009. In that role, he led a performance turnaround in key markets such as China.

From 1995 to 2002, he was associated with Pharmacia as president of Asia-Pacific; global vice president of Ophthalmology and Metabolic Diseases; and managing director of Pharmacia & Upjohn Australia.

Brent Saunders, CEO of Bausch + Lomb, said: “Rod has an extensive and successful record of driving transformational change in global health care companies, with a particular focus on Asia-Pacific. His counsel and leadership will be extremely valuable as we work to build B+L into a high-performance competitor in Asia and worldwide. We thank David for his contributions to the company and for establishing a strong foundation for future success.”

Mr Unsworth said: “There are exciting opportunities for B+L in this dynamic growth region. I look forward to working with our teams across Asia-Pacific to build high performance for our company, for our customers, and for patients.”
