Bal Seal Engineering plans to launch an integrated seal and electrical contact system Sygnus Implantable Contact System, for active implantable medical devices, on 13 October at the MD&M Minneapolis show.

The new contact system can establish multiple contacts with a single set-screw holding the contacts in place.

Sygnus combines electrical contacts and isolation seals in a standardized, platform-ready stack configuration.

The new Sygnus system pairs the company’s Bal Conn electrical contact technology with pre-tested silicone seals, resulting in a package engineered to help large and small medical-device OEMs improve speed to market and eliminate the need for procurement and testing of individual components.

Bal Seal said the number of contacts and seals in the Sygnus system will be configurable to meet application and industry requirements, such as the IS4 standard for cardiac health management devices.

Bal Seal global medical electronics account manager Mark Russell said that the upcoming launch of Sygnus is a direct response to the medical device community’s demand for an integrated sealing and connecting system that incorporates an established, ultra-reliable contact in a plug-and-play platform that doesn’t compromise on performance.
