B. Braun Medical Inc. (B. Braun) has entered into a new, expanded agreement with Amerinet Inc. (Amerinet), a healthcare group purchasing organization. Effective November 1, 2009, the new five-year agreement will give Amerinet members access to a full line of B. Braun large and small-volume IV pumps, IV solutions, needle-free products, clinical nutrition, admixture and drug delivery services.

A previous agreement gave Amerinet members access to other B. Braun products and services.

“This new contract builds on B. Braun’s shared commitment to provide Amerinet members with an increased capability to deliver safe, efficient care to their patients,” said Eric Steen, senior vice president and chief marketing officer for B. Braun Medical Inc. “They will now have access to advanced technology and expertise to help them deliver quality healthcare.”

Steen said this is the first time Amerinet members will have access to a full line of eco-friendly PVC-free and DEHP-free IV solutions.

The company claims that one key product now available to Amerinet members is B. Braun’s advanced SPACE Infusion System.

Designed with both adult and pediatric facilities in mind, the small, lightweight SPACE Infusion System allows for flexibility and easy transport within a number of care settings. At 9 inches by 6 inches and weighing only three pounds, the SPACE pumps can fit easily into a range of environments. The system, designed for higher acuity care facilities, offers a large drug library as well as the capability to build up to 24 pumps in a single bedside tower. Anesthesiologists also benefit from the compact size of the Perfusor® SPACE syringe pump in crowded operating room environments, where three pumps easily interlock on a pole clamp.

Amerinet members will also have access to B. Braun’s Outlook Safety Infusion System.

The company claims that the easy-to-use Outlook System with DoseGuard is designed to ensure the right patient is receiving the right drug and the right dose by an authorized clinician, and notifies clinicians if institution-defined dose limits are exceeded. Patient safety is further enhanced with DoseScan pump-based barcode technology with automated checks and balances that augment the manual procedures commonly in use. With these integrated technologies, the Outlook Safety Infusion System helps reduce human error and enables hospitals to provide an unprecedented level of IV medication safety.

“We’ve had a long-standing relationship with B. Braun in a variety of product areas,” said Gary Freeman, vice president, pharmacy for Amerinet. “This agreement gives our customers access to a more extensive group of B. Braun products.”
