Appleton Medical Services, a distributor of minimally invasive surgical devices, has purchased an additional MicroThermX microwave ablation system of BSD Medical.
Since May 2011, Appleton has been BSD’s distributor of the MicroThermX product line and now purchases BSD’s SynchroWave disposable antennas.
The MicroThermX system comprises a microwave generator, single-patient-use disposable antennas and a thermistor-based temperature monitoring system.
By utilizing synchronous phased array technology, the ablation product provides larger and more uniform zones of ablation during a single procedure.
The CE-marked MicroThermX system has also received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use in ablation of soft tissue.
