Ansell, a developer of surgical products, has introduced GAMMEX non-latex antimicrobial surgical glove in Canada.
The non-latex surgical glove is coated with antimicrobial chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), which shows effectiveness against 99% of the Hepatitis C virus, HIV-1 strain Mn and six common infectious bacteria including drug-resistant methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus.
In addition to latex (Type I) allergies, the non-latex glove featuring proprietary AMT antimicrobial technology provides protection against microbial transmission due to intraoperative glove breaches.
The gloves are not proven to protect against blood-borne infections where the skin is broken, cut or punctured, claims the company.
Ansell Medical Solutions president and general business manager Anthony Lopez said the GAMMEX non-latex antimicrobial surgical glove has been developed in anticipation of healthcare workers’ needs.
"Our relentless focus on innovation is evident in the new products and technologies we launch aimed at providing the utmost protection for healthcare workers and patients alike," Lopez added.
The non-latex surgical glove is an investigational device and is not available for sale outside of Canada.
