American Shared Hospital Services (AMS), a provider of technology solutions for radiosurgical and radiation therapy services, has entered into a 10-year contract to supply Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion system to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

AMS said that the system, the ninth placed by AMS to date, will be an upgrade to Perfexion specifications of an existing Gamma Knife previously supplied by AMS to another hospital in the area.

The Perfexion system is expected to begin treating patients in the first quarter of 2011, following the upgrade and move to its new location.

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center president and chief administrative officer Keith Altshuler said that the Perfexion system is regarded as the advanced stereotactic radiosurgery system available, and they are excited to make this advanced treatment available to cancer patients in partnership with Thompson Cancer Survival Center.

AMS chairman and CEO Ernest Bates said that their newest clinical partner is the premier cancer treatment center in the East Tennessee region and they are pleased that their financing solutions have made possible the upgrade to radiosurgery technology at an affordable price.
