AMS said the Gamma Knife Perfexion is mainly used to perform radiosurgery of the brain.

Elekta, manufacturer of the Gamma Knife Perfexion, said the system reduces unwanted body dose to the patient, thus allowing for an increased treatable volume, which will increase the number of patients to benefit from Gamma Knife surgery.

AMS chairman and CEO Ernest Bates said they are pleased to add this institution to their list of Perfexion sites, and pleased that Sacred Heart is able to take advantage of AMS’ creative solutions to make next-generation radiosurgery technology available to its patients.

"We are seeing increased opportunities to place Gamma Knife Perfexions at new and existing AMS sites both in the U.S. and internationally," Bates said.

The company said pending regulatory approval, patient treatments on this Perfexion system are expected to begin this fall.
