American Shared Hospital Services has entered into an agreement to supply its upgraded Gamma Knife Perfexion system to Northern Westchester Hospital.

Northern Westchester Hospital provides patient-centered care services, while its cancer treatment and wellness center provides access to oncologists and surgeons for treating various type of cancers.

Northern Westchester Hospital medical affairs senior vice president and chief medical officer Marla Koroly said the hospital is committed to provide patients with the quality medical care and continues to bring new technology to Westchester County, New York, US.

"With the addition of the Gamma Knife Perfexion, NWH cancer specialists and neurosurgeons are better able to treat patients with malignant and benign brain tumors, vascular malformations, and trigeminal neuralgia by delivering highly targeted, concentrated doses of radiation, while sparing adjacent, healthy brain tissue," Koroly added.

"Gamma Knife treatment benefits patients by enabling many to return to pre-treatment activities in 24-72 hours."

Pending regulatory approval, patient treatments using the upgraded Perfexion system are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2012.
