Aesculap Implant Systems has launched new ProSpace DBM-D, a demineralized bone matrix available in two forms 'flowable' paste or 'moldable' putty. The moldable putty contains cortical-cancellous chips which creates a 3-D scaffold for optimized osteoconduction.

Aesculap Implant Systems said that the ProSpace DBM-D pastes and putties serve as bone void filler in many surgical applications. ProSpace DBM-D is manufactured for Aesculap by RTI Biologics.

The features associated to the product allow for room temperature storage and re-hydration with a choice of fluids, including patient’s own blood, sterile water or saline.

Aesculap was founded in 1867 in Tuttlingen, Germany as a global manufacturer of surgical instruments. Aesculap focuses its expertise in the areas of orthopaedics, spinal implants, neurosurgery and vascular systems and sutures.

In order to be more responsive to its growing customer base in spine and orthopaedics, Aesculap formed a new company Aesculap Implant Systems. The new company claimed that it would focus on the markets allowing for greater customer service. Aesculap Implant Systems maintains a surgeon/patient focus with the goal of improved operative procedures and patient outcomes leading to an improved quality of life.
