US-based Aesculap Implant Systems has introduced Plasmafit Pro Acetabular System with the Vitelene liner.

The Plasmafit Pro two-piece system includes cementless titanium acetabular shell and a crosslinked ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) vitamin E blended liner.

Vitelene liner is formulated with antioxidant protection, which provides better wear and oxidation resistance and balanced mechanical properties.

The Plasmafit Pro acetabular system cup design features a modified dome shape, which provides immediate grip-feel during implantation.

According to Aesculap, the Plasmafit Pro cup is coated with a titanium porous plasma spray, which avoids migration of the implant and supports high primary stability.

The Plasmafit Pro Acetabular Cup System and Vitelene Insert have been developed to replace a hip joint.

The device can be used for patients suffering from severe hip pain and disability due to arthritis, collagen disorders, avascular necrosis of the femoral head and nonunion of previous fractures of the femur.
