Danish scanners and software developer 3Shape has rolled out a new intraoral scanner called TRIOS 5 Wireless designed to support the transition of dentists to digital dentistry.

The TRIOS 5 Wireless is said to be based on the new ScanAssist intelligent alignment technology to make scanning smoother and quicker.

3Shape said that the scanner comes in a redesigned compact body to increase the standard of imaging performance as well as infection control.

According to the Danish firm, TRIOS 5 Wireless is its smallest and lightest scanner to date and is precisely balanced to comfortably fit in any hand. It has more than 50 improvements in ease of use and design, claimed 3Shape.

3Shape CEO Jakob Just-Bomholt said: “At 3Shape, we have strived for perfection through five generations of intraoral scanner evolution.

“Using state-of-the-art scan software and artificial intelligence to deliver sharper colours, improved accuracy, and increased efficiency, we believe TRIOS 5 surpasses all expectations.

“With its ergonomic and well-balanced look inspired by classic Danish design, TRIOS 5 Wireless simply, makes sense.”

The new intraoral scanner from 3Shape has a weight of 300gms, while its length is 10.5 inches. Dentists can take it anywhere using TRIOS Share for scanning from every PC in their practice.

Furthermore, dentists can optimise scans while scanning with the help of an LED ring and haptic sensory feedback guide for a simple and faster digital impression process.

3Shape claims that users can scan their patients in any direction by designing the most efficient scan route using the ScanAssist technology, which reduces misalignment and distortion in 3D models.

With the Smart Power Management feature, TRIOS 5 has an all-day battery life and it automatically enters sleep mode when not in use to conserve energy. Per battery, the scanner offers a scan time of up to 66 minutes.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared closed autoclavable scanning tip on the TRIOS 5 Wireless is covered by scratch-free sapphire glass to improve hygiene.

Additionally, the intraoral scanner has single-use sleeves that are almost invisible, tight, and ultra-thin to protect its body and reduce the possibility of cross-contamination, said the scanner and software firm.
