US-based medical device company Teleflex has rolled out two new medical devices, Arrow VPS Rhythm DLX Device and NaviCurve Stylet, to improve peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) insertion procedures.

The new devices are designed to provide vascular access specialists with more effective and predictable PICC placement, while reducing the risk of complications.

Teleflex said that its new-generation VPS Rhythm DLX Device provides real-time catheter tip location information using the patient’s cardiac electrical activity.

Also, the device comes with an integrated ultrasound option, featuring a Catheter-to-Vessel ratio tool that supports standardisation in vessel measurement.

The VPS Rhythm DLX Device works with the Arrow PICC, preloaded with the NaviCurve Stylet, to provide advanced tip navigation technology, said the US medical device maker.

When used with TipTracker Technology, the device eliminates the need for a confirmatory x-ray, facilitating easy insertion through ultrasound vessel assessment, PICC navigation, to final tip confirmation in the lower third of the superior vena cava.

According to the company, PICCs may occasionally face difficulty advancing into the superior vena cava (SVC) on the first attempt, due to the variability of patient vasculature.

Teleflex said that its Arrow NaviCurve Stylet features an anatomical curve and flexible tip, which conform with patient anatomy to help advance PICC into SVC.

The firm has worked together with vascular access professionals to design the enhancements for the new Arrow VPS Rhythm DLX Device, NaviCurve Stylet, PICCS, and other insertion devices.

Teleflex vascular president and general manager Lisa Kudlacz said: “We remain committed to building strong partnerships with our clinicians and hospitals, and these latest advancements in Arrow Catheter Insertion Technology from Teleflex align with our mutual goal toward zero catheter-related complications.

“The introduction of our new positioning device and enhanced catheter design complement our proprietary Arrowg+ard Blue Advance PICC antimicrobial and anti-thrombogenic protection that reduces thrombus accumulation and the primary pathogens responsible for most healthcare-associated infections.

“With multiple levels of protection, critical innovations, best-in-class education and bedside support, we are well suited to be the partner of choice for our customers.”

In August last year, Teleflex agreed to acquire Standard Bariatrics, a US-based firm that offers powered stapling technology for bariatric surgery.
