US-based medical devices company Aspen Medical Products has introduced its fully integrated spinal support system, the VRTX System, for post-operative and trauma care.

Developed based on the company’s previous Vista Cervical Collar, the VRTX System incorporates enhanced features into the new VRTX Collar.

It comprises prefabricated CTO, TLSO, LSO and CTLSO components, which provide optimal motion restriction and can be used according to the patient’s needs.

Aspen said that the VRTX System is the first-ever cervical-to-sacrum system designed to redefine spinal care in acute care settings.

Its prefabricated design, combined with intuitively adjustable sizing will help clinicians fit patients and stabilise the spine immediately.

The system enables time and inventory management to help reduce the length of stay and risk of complications while optimising operational effectiveness in hospitals, said the company.

Aspen CEO Jim Cloar said: “We understand the need for an improved patient and clinician experience, and we designed the VRTX System to bring value to the healthcare system as a whole.

“Our resulting goal was to create a family of products that all interact with one another, simplify the fitting process through intuitive design and ensure ease of use at home.”

Commonly, patients with traumatic, multi-level spinal injuries need a personalised Cervical Thoracic Lumbar Sacral Orthosis (CTLSO) that stabilises the spine before or after surgery.

The patients may wait for up to three days to receive their CTLSO, which increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis, bed sores, respiratory issues and other complications.

Aspen said that the modular, low-profile design of its VRTX System supports a broad range of patient anatomies and improves patient outcomes through rapid access to ambulatory care.

The modular solution facilitates the standardisation of products and services in the hospital to enhance staff productivity and patient care, said the medical device company.

Aspen research and development director Albert Romo said: “From day one, Aspen has been committed to understanding the intricate needs and challenges of both patients and healthcare providers.

“Years of patient and clinician feedback as well as industry insights have been our guiding forces while creating the VRTX System.

“This innovation is more than just a product; it’s a testament to our dedication to improve the healthcare landscape and ultimately enhance the well-being of all those we serve.”
