Orthopedic and neurological solutions provider DePuy Synthes Companies has acquired US-based Olive Medical, which provides high definition (HD) visualization systems for minimally invasive surgery (MIS).

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Established in 2009, medical device manufacturing firm Olive Medical supplies HD MIS imaging equipment to the operating room and physician offices.

The company markets its visualization technology in around 20 countries across the globe.

Olive Medical visualization portfolio is said to compliment DePuy Synthes Mitek Sports Medicine arthroscopy line, and will allow the company to enter the arthroscopic visualization market to provide services to patients with shoulder, knee, hip, and small joint pain or injury.

Mitek Sports Medicine procedural enablement portfolio comprises VAPR Radiofrequency Systems with electrodes used for tissue ablation and coagulation, and the FMS fluid management and tissue debridement system that maintains optimal visualization along with integrated soft tissue and bone shaving functionality.

In addition, Mitek Sports Medicine offers implants and instruments for minimally invasive soft tissue repair, including a full line of screws and suture anchors.
