The acquisition will add a number of devices and biological products for hemostasis, tissue sealing and adherence to Baxter’s existing regenerative medicine and biosurgery portfolio.

Synovis develops surgical devices used in soft tissue repair procedures, including Peri-strips dry, Tissue-guard and Veritas Collagen Matrix.

Synovis’ portfolio also includes microsurgery products including Coupler, Flow coupler and Gem microclip used for joining small diameter vessels during autologous tissue breast reconstruction; sealing small blood vessels; and head, neck and hand procedures.

Synovis’ new business in orthopedic and wound management products holds applications ranging from the repair of rotator cuff and other tendon injuries to advanced wound management.

Baxter’s BioScience business president Ludwig Hantson said the combined business will provide surgeons in the US with a more complete line of new tools used to treat patients.
