A chemical firm - Wacker has launched a new biocompatible silicone adhesive for medical applications.

The new adhesive material is commercialized under the brand name Silpuran 4200 which contains no organic plasticizers, are resistant to radiation, can be readily sterilized.

Silpuran 4200 upon vulcanization forms a silicone elastomer with mechanical strength, making it to form bonding of components for medical devices.

The vulcanized silicone adhesive layer can also support substantial mechanical loads and shows medium hardness and elongation, it has good tensile strength and tear resistance.

Silpuran 4200 is also used to form elastic bonds between the molded silicone parts and textiles used in manufacturing prosthetic and orthotic devices.
