The US Patent Office has issued a patent to PolyRemedy covering selection algorithms and manufacturing methods that result in advanced antimicrobial dressings that are customized for optimal moisture control, vapor transfer, size and shape to provide an optimal wound healing environment.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has confirmed reimbursement coding for the full customization of the company’s PolyFIT personalized advanced dressings.

PolyRemedy said its integrated Personalized Woundcare System (PWS) ensures consistency of care by linking wound assessment to evidence-based protocols that address the functional needs of the patient’s wound(s) at each point in the healing cycle.

In addition, assessment data are leveraged to provide access to comprehensive analytics that allow for monitoring wound progress and resource utilization.

PolyRemedy Clinical Affairs medical director and chief Diane Cooper said PWS generates a PolyFIT personalized dressing that is optimized for a specific patient, at a specific point in their healing cycle.

"At the same time PWS provides the treating nurse with a simplified one-step application, eliminating the ad-hoc customization that typically occurs," Cooper said.

PolyRemedy president and CEO Mark Carbeau said the company has demonstrated PWS’ impact on improving consistency and reducing costs.

"CMS code classification for full customization recognizes the unique value of personalized advanced dressings while the patent provides important protection to PolyRemedy as we continue to develop innovative solutions that impact chronic wound care," Carbeau said.
