The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Torax Medical's Linx reflux management system for use in patients diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

The Linx system is a small implant comprised of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores and is implanted with a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure.

The magnetic attraction between the beads augments the existing esophageal sphincter’s barrier function to prevent reflux.

Torax Medical president and CEO Todd Berg said the company will work with medical centers that have a expertise in the treatment of reflux disease to create ‘centers of excellence’ for the Linx system.

"Patients will have access to the Linx procedure within the next 30 days," Berg added.
