Teleflex, a provider of medical technologies for critical care and surgery, has launched new airway management device LMA Protector Airway.

The LMA Protector Airway is claimed to be the globe’s first single-use laryngeal mask with a dual gastric drainage channel and pharyngeal chamber designed specifically to channel high volume and high pressure gastric contents away from the airway.

Featuring silicone cuff and airway tube, the device is developed for easy and rapid insertion during difficult airway situations.

The device uses Second Seal technology to secure the distal tip at the upper esophageal sphincter, allowing in isolating the respiratory tract from the digestive tract and reducing the risk of aspiration of gastric contents.

In addition, the device incorporates Cuff Pilot technology, which helps clinicians to confirm that the inserted cuff is properly inflated and to monitor pressure levels.

Teleflex anesthesia division president Justin McMurray said: "The LMA Protector Airway ushers in a new era in the evolution of airway management with its unique combination of innovative capabilities that could help clinicians reduce airway-related complications and improve procedural efficiencies.

"This significant advance in airway management is the direct result of our relentless pursuit of innovations to improve the health and quality of people’s lives."

Teleflex will showcase the new device at the Anesthesiology 2015, the annual organization meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA).

The firm will also exhibit its other Arrow, LMA, Rusch and Hudson RCI branded products at the meeting.

In addition, the firm plans to launch new products in the LMA Unique Line of Airways, as well as Arrow Endurance extended dwell peripheral catheter system for patients needing vascular access for up to 29 days.
