Private equity firm RoundTable Healthcare Partners has signed an agreement to acquire Symmetry Surgical for $140.3m.

Based in Nashville of Tennessee, US, Symmetry Surgical produces reusable, reposable and single-use surgical instrumentation and specialty devices.

Symmetry produces surgical instruments under various brands, including Bookwalter, Greenbreg, Olsen, Sharp Kerrison and Flash Pak.

Other brands comprise of Classic, Classic Plus, Secto, Quad-Lock, Rapidclean, Magnafree, Midas Touch, Microsect and others.

Under the deal, RoundTable senior operating partner Thomas Kapfer will act as chairman for Symmetry board. Thomas Sullivan, the president and CEO of Symmetry, will continue to lead the firm’s management team.

Kapfer said: "The company’s comprehensive product portfolio is comprised of well-known brands that are recognized by hospitals and physicians worldwide.

"We look forward to working with the management team as they continue to serve their customers and grow the business."

RoundTable management committee chairman Lester Knight said: "This investment continues our now 15-year strategy of focusing on companies that can benefit from our operating and transaction expertise.

Subject to customary closing conditions, the deal is expected to complete in the late second or early third quarter of this year.
