Medical device firm Precision Spine is set to introduce its MD-Vue lateral access system at the North American Spine Society (NASS) annual meeting in Boston, US.

The event will take place from 26 to 29 October.

Developed in partnership with lateral approach spine surgeons, the new lightweight MD-Vue system is claimed to be the only lateral retractor that provides an advanced and patented nested 3-blade design to prevent blade creep during insertion.

An adjunct fourth blade anterior retraction option allows surgeons to increase the retraction field, if required.

MD-Vue design team member Faheem Sandhu said: “The MD-Vue Lateral Access System’s patented, nested 3-blade design is an innovative feature that enables surgeons to prevent blade creep in lateral procedures.

“It incorporates a large blade diameter for increased surface area contact, which minimizes the pressure on neural structures during retraction.”

Precision Spine CEO and board chairman Jim Pastena said: “With its many unique features, MD-Vue is a noteworthy advancement over existing lateral access systems and an outstanding platform from which we can continue to expand our presence in the lateral market.”

Precision Spine also produces Reform Modular and HA (hydroxyapatite) coated pedicle screw systems, which were developed to provide immobilization and stabilization of spinal segments of skeletally mature patients as an adjunct to fusion in the treatment of the many acute and chronic instabilities or deformities of the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine.
