PerkinElmer has partnered with Johnson & Johnson Innovation to provide instruments and lab services to newly-opened life science incubator, JLABS @South San Francisco (JLABS @SSF), to support the research needs of resident start-ups.

In addition, PerkinElmer will offer on-site staff, training and scientific application support to the residents of JLABS.

PerkinElmer human health president Jim Corbett said: "It is critical that growing companies in the healthcare and scientific space have access to the most cutting-edge lab infrastructure, assets, application knowledge and support to help drive their research efforts."

The collaboration will allow JLABS @SSF residents to carry out different research and development activities using PerkinElmer’s advanced imaging and detection solutions for a wide range of life sciences and environmental health applications.

The applications include sample preparation, protein characterization, screening new drugs, performing assays for drug discovery, mass spectrometry analysis, next-generation sequencing, identifying adulterants and contaminants, and forensics testing.

This approach is said to align with JLABS model, which offers lab space, instrumentation and other resources, such as operational support, education and business services to emerging life science companies in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, and digital health spaces.

In addition, PerkinElmer’s OneSource Laboratory Services team of certified engineers and scientific staff will offer on-site expertise and knowledge to support the companies in their scientific processes.

The services, which will reduce lab complexities and increase efficiencies, comprise information services, compliance services, scientific services, lab relocation services and asset services, including asset management for multivendor instrument service and repair.
