Numerex, a provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) products and services, has developed a new wireless monitoring device-network-application (DNA) solution for MicroMed's HeartAssist5 left ventricular assist device (LVAD).

The MicroMed’s M2M application was developed using Numerex’s FAST platform.

As part of the Numerex’s DNA solution, the firmware was optimized to reduce the size of the data packet transmissions, optimizing from over 50MB to less than 4MB per month and resulting in efficiencies and cost savings.

Numerex chief revenue officer Mike Marett said MicroMed brought their deep domain expertise and a product to the company.

"After which we applied our M2M expertise and leveraged our platforms to enable a rapid product evolution and ultimately enable the many new benefits associated with continuous connectivity and monitoring," Marett added.
