The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a grant to Heart IT and Johns Hopkins Medicine to include medical images in the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN).

NHIN has been initiated for smaller healthcare providers in order to meet the ability to access and share medical images.

To meet these requirements, Heart IT has discovered a technology called Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) PACS named as – WebPAX- which enable smaller healthcare providers to share and access images via the NHIN.

Heart IT has also received a $2.25m NIH grant, under which it is entering into collaboration with Johns Hopkins and its member hospitals to discover a prototype of this technology and assess its value and capabilities within NHIN.
