A consortium of healthcare providers from across the US has been established to independently test medical devices and their effectiveness over their lifetime. The collaboration, which includes United Healthcare, came about because of what its creators said was the need to rate devices on performance, eplacement and readmissions to hospitals, and present the findings in a scorecard format.

SharedClarity, the name of the new service provider, will assess devices used for the heart, in neurology and orthopaedics. The scorecard will be available to medical workers under the SharedClarity umbrella and should, the group said, help ensure the most suitable treatment is selected.
