ProxiSure is an advanced laparoscopic suturing device, which features the firm’s endomechanical, suture and curved needle technologies.

ProxiSure suturing device can be used in bariatric, general, colorectal, and gynecology procedures.

The device’s wrist-like maneuverability and curved needle enables to improve suturing precision in close spaces.

The suturing precision is deployed to help surgeons to reach the desired angle, control bites and receive knots.

It will also help to provide maximum control on needle during suturing and knot tying, helping to reduce the risk of needle loss.

Ethicon franchise medical director Dr Niels-Derrek Schmitz said: "With the patient's health at the forefront of our thinking, we aimed to introduce a suturing device that will help reduce the margin of error in minimally-invasive surgery.

"Surgeons will now be able to have the same confidence in laparoscopic suturing that they have always had with traditional procedures using Ethicon products."

In April, Ethicon secured 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Echelon circular powered stapler.

Echelon circular powered stapler has been developed to reduce anastomotic complications in colorectal, gastric and thoracic cancer surgeries.

In March, Ethicon acquired medical devices maker Torax Medical, which produces and markets Linx reflux management system and Fenix continence restoration system.

Linx system is a minimally invasive device designed for use in the surgical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
