Privately held medical device company Innovia has launched InnoPort, which performs laparoscopic surgery through one incision, instead of multiple incisions, with the goal of minimizing pain, scarring and recovery time for patients, in the US.

The device’s simple, cone-shape design grants physicians unrestricted access to the abdominal cavity with up to three rigid, curved, and/or articulating 5mm instruments.

The design also enables physicians to place, use and remove the device with minimal effort and low risk of complication.

Two ancillary ports permit insufflation and smoke exhaustion throughout the procedure.

Innovia president and CEO Leonard Pinchuk said their intention was to provide surgeons with a simple, effective and inexpensive alternative to access ports that are on the market, with enhanced functionality and they are confident that their goals have been met with the InnoPort.

The InnoPort’s planned product line extensions will have additional instrument sizes for use in general, gynecological, urologic, gastrointestinal, bariatric, and pediatric laparoscopic procedures.
