Mobile medical technology company HealthTronics, a portfolio company of Altaris Capital Partners, announced it has acquired Chicago-based United Therapies.

The move not only expands HealthTronics’ fleet of mobilized medical technology, it broadens the Austin-based company’s reach across the United States and includes investments in facilities that provide low-cost alternatives to hospitals.

Founded in 1985, United Therapies provides mobile lithotripsy and laser technology to healthcare providers in Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The acquisition of United Therapies brings HealthTronics’ total number of employees to over 550 nationwide.

"Continuing to build our portfolio underscores our mission to provide exceptional and effective technologies that improve patient care across a spectrum of medical specialties including urology, interventional radiology, otolaryngology (ENT), aesthetics, gynecology, neurology, orthopedics, podiatry and vascular," said Russell Newman, President of HealthTronics.

He also said, "Expanding our geographic reach offers more specialists and other healthcare providers easier access to HealthTronics’ applications, which include lithotripsy, microwave ablation, nerve monitoring, laser treatment and cryotherapy for urology and interventional radiology."

HealthTronics delivers mobile devices to medical facilities, where a physician conducts each procedure. A dedicated, highly trained HealthTronics technologist assists with operation of the equipment.

This process gives healthcare providers access to the latest technology and cutting edge treatments when they otherwise could not afford the costs associated with purchasing and maintaining the equipment, replacing technology when it becomes obsolete, and training support staff.

"HealthTronics’ mobile medical technology enables doctors and hospitals of any size – from comprehensive medical centers to offices in remote, rural communities — to provide a wider array of clinical treatment options," said Newman. "Expanding our geographic reach and investing in alternative treatment facilities through the acquisition of United Therapies will help us put the best tools available into the hands of even more physicians."

HealthTronics, Inc., established in 1989 and headquartered in Austin, Texas, provides integrated, mobilized medical technologies and services, as well as physician partnership opportunities. The company brings its advanced technology and support systems to health care providers throughout the United States.
