HealthPro has awarded a contract to Daniels Sharpsmart to provide re-usable sharps containment system for its members staff and patients across Canada.

The device, Sharpsmart, is designed for reducing needle stick injuries, costs and the impact waste has on the environment.

Daniels Sharpsmart Canada managing director Dean McPhee said the Sharpsmart System has been independently tested and shown to reduce needle stick injuries by more than 80%.

"In addition to being awarded the HealthPro contract, we are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Daniel Kennedy as the new Chief Executive Officer of Daniels Sharpsmart Canada," McPhee added.

"Dan has been with Daniels since 2009 as a Vice President of the U.S. operations and was formerly a director and founder of Medical Waste Management (MWM) in Canada and has worked directly with or for Daniels for more than 13 years.

"With his experience in the medical waste market within the Canadian market combined with his strong background with Daniels, the board and I believe Dan will make a significant contribution to the ongoing success of our Canadian business."

In addition to Canada, the Sharpsmart system is used in healthcare facilities in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
