US-based not-for-profit healthcare organisation Hackensack Meridian Health has extended its partnership with tech giant Google to improve patient care.

The healthcare provider has recently shifted to Google Workspace and joins the world’s few health systems that use Chrome OS devices across clinical and business environments.

Also, the organisation is teaming up with Google Cloud to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies across various clinical areas.

Hackensack Meridian Health CEO Robert Garrett said: “Hackensack Meridian Health is always looking for new and innovative ways we can utilise technology to transform the patient experience.

“Through our collaboration with Google, we are enhancing patient care and improving health outcomes.

“Google Chrome Enterprise will continue to allow our team members to work from home, collaborate seamlessly, and deliver convenient access to high-quality care during challenging times, while keeping patients and team members secure.”

Hackensack Meridian Health will deploy a combination of Google Workspace and Chrome Enterprise, a Chrome OS’ business-focused solution.

Chrome Enterprise includes Chrome browser and Chrome OS devices such as Chromebooks and Chromeboxes, for clinical and operational settings.

The combination is said to simplify the tasks and enable easy interactions between frontline workers, and patients, said the healthcare organisation.

Hackensack Meridian Health is also partnering with Google Cloud to deploy its AI and ML technologies to help physicians provide better care.

The AI/ML partnership will support screening of newborn babies for congenital disorders, mammography screening in women, and prostate cancer screening in males.

Furthermore, the partnership will also facilitate sepsis detection and Covid-19 detection.

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said: “This partnership provides the opportunity to transform care for thousands of patients.

“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Hackensack Meridian Health team, as we further our joint efforts to develop innovative services that will push care to the next level.”
