GE Healthcare has expanded the clinical capabilities of the premium wide bore 1.5T Optima MR450w wide-bore MR system with the introduction of radiation oncology options.

The radiation oncology options were developed in partnership with CIVCO Medical Solutions, a provider in radiation therapy patient positioning devices.

The offering consists of a flat couch insert with indexing and MR compatible positioning devices for brain, head/neck, and pelvis.

The radiation oncology options, combined with the Optima MR450w’s high spatial integrity and large 50cm field of view and image quality, offers clinicians potential improvements in tumor targeting in brain, head/’neck and pelvis therapy sites, GE Healthcare said.

GE Healthcare MR Surgical and Radiation Oncology Group global marketing manager Bryan Van Meter said that without exception, the first step in effectively reducing the time, effort and success in fusing MR to CT images for radiation treatment planning is the consistent set-up of patients in the MR scanner exactly as they are in planning CT.
