Toronto-based Figure 1 free app that allows healthcare professionals to share pictures, will be launched across western Europe by the end of this year.

The Figure 1 service is said to allow doctors to share photos of their patients with each other, as well as with medical students.

Founder Dr Josh Landy was quoted by BBC as saying that the Figure 1 service will not access any patient records.

"We do not possess any personal medical data at all. The best way to keep a secret is not to have it. We are not an organisation that delivers healthcare," Landy added.

The app automatically obscures patients’ faces, and users need to manually block identifying marks such as tattoos.

Currently, the app is available in North America, the UK and Ireland.

Landy also noted that anybody can download the app, but only verified healthcare professionals can upload photos or comment on them.
