By winning this public tender, Elekta will make the institute its training and product development center in Latin America with the entire product portfolio available including hardware, software, planning system, management system and linear accelerators. The institute will be equipped with two Elekta Synergy Platform, three Elekta Synergy, one Elekta Axesse, 30 MOSAIQ stations and 19 CMS treatment planning systems.

“This is the most important step taken by Elekta in Latin America”, says Antonio Ponce, vice president, Elekta Latin America. “We are very pleased that the institute will become the training and development center of Latin America for Elekta, a center which is linked to the largest medical university in the region.”

About 6,000 patients diagnosed with cancer are treated at the institute every month, and attended by some of Brazil’s most qualified professionals in this specialty. A key feature of the institute is the innovation in assistance, which allows the patient to have all phases of his care, diagnosis and rehabilitation, integrated in the same place.

Besides medical care, the professionals of ICESP develop teaching and research activities in accordance with the medical model of education introduced by the University of São Paulo Medicine – USP. The goal is to transform the institute into a research center of international reference in the area of cancer, including the study of new drugs and innovative treatments for the disease.

Elekta started its own subsidiary in São Paulo in the beginning of 2008, an investment which has been a success. The Latin American market has successfully proved to be a growth market for Elekta.

“We are becoming a major player in Brazil and Latin America. This order is a strong proof that our increased efforts are paying off”, says Olof Sandén, executive vice president for the Region Europe & Latin America. “We are very impressed with the response that we have received from the market on our activities and we are looking forward to expand and continue to serve the Latin American market.”
