ECA Medical Instruments and Intelligent Implant Systems (I2S) have jointly developed new spinal implant instrument fixation kit.

ECA

The I2S Revolution spinal fusion system features fixation instruments including awls, pedicle probes, driver shafts, cannulated torque-limiting handles, ratchets and fixed drivers, which can be used by orthopaedic surgeons to perform both open and minimally invasive surgeries (MIS).

ECA Medical Instruments president and CEO John Nino said: "We’re helping transform healthcare economics by providing our OEM implant customers with robust and tailored disposable instruments and fixation kits as alternatives to traditional and costly reusable tools.

"Adoption of disposable kits across the orthopaedic market is saving hospitals and ASCs on inventory and operating costs, improving patient safety, reducing risk of surgical site infection and increasing OR efficiency levels."

The Revolution Spinal Fixation System has been developed to treat acute and chronic instabilities or deformities of the thoracic, lumbar and sacral spinal in skeletally mature patients.

According to the company, the Revolution is a pre-sterilized and single-use posterior spinal fixation procedural system, which allows hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) to increase productivity and reduce operational costs.

The system is currently under FDA 510(k) review and not available for sale. It will be available through distributors across North America, once approved by FDA, said ECA.

Intelligent Implant Systems president and CEO Marc Richelsoph said: "We are pleased to have partnered with ECA for developing single-use and disposable instrumentation kits for our new Revolution System."
