DISA Vascular, a provider of cardiovascular devices, has received CE mark approval for its new Cape Cross PTCA balloon catheter.

As part of its development, DISA has licensed SurModics’ surface modification technology to reduce friction which will facilitate access and crossing of lesions, thereby increasing the trackability of the catheter through arteries during the angioplasty procedure.

The new Cape Cross catheter includes a distal tip that has been slimmed and tapered.

It also features a reduced profile and more flexible balloon-catheter bonds which will improve navigation through tortuous arteries and lesions.

DISA Vascular product development manager Ken Park said the company has achieved the deliverable catheter through a complete redesign of each aspect of the product by a newly designed hypotube and transition zone.

"Our new production facility has provided us with an array of state-of-the-art equipment which has enabled us to design for the most challenging performance requirements," Park added.
