The deal adds DePuy Synthes with Interventional Spine’s expandable cages that are used in spinal fusion surgery to restore the natural disc height.

Interventional Spine’s expandable cage technology, which offers optimal tactile feedback for the surgeon, features a continuously adjustable design that enables the surgeon to customize the device height to the patient’s anatomy.

The implants have been designed to maximize bone graft contact and containment, helping to promote bone growth and fusion.

In addition, DePuy Synthes is purchasing Interventional Spine’s facet screw system for open and percutaneous spine surgery.

The system is a type of MIS that uses small skin incisions without cutting the underlying muscle, helping to reduce the risk of complications in spinal fusion surgery.

DePuy Synthes company group chairman Ciro Römer said: “DePuy Synthes and Interventional Spine have a common goal—advancing spinal care for patients with debilitating degenerative disc disease and expanding access to this important technology globally.

DePuy Synthes produces a range of spinal care solutions, including treatments for aging spine, less invasive surgery, scoliosis and degenerative disc disease.
