Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Midwestern Regional Medical Center has purchased BSD Medical's BSD-500 Hyperthermia System (BSD-500).

CTCA is a network of hospitals, which provides advanced therapeutic resources care to cancer patients.

The BSD-500 System delivers noninvasive (external) hyperthermia by using antennas placed over the tumor or interstitial hyperthermia, which is delivered using antennas that are inserted into the tumor, or a combination of both.

BSD president Harold Wolcott said clinical studies have shown that hyperthermia delivered using the BSD-500 can increase the effectiveness of radiation therapy without a significant increase in toxicity for certain tumors.

"This will be the sixth BSD Hyperthermia system purchased by CTCA, and we are excited to have another BSD system placed in these cancer care facilities," Wolcott said.
