Centurion Medical Products has expanded its Compass platform with the introduction of new digital pressure transducers to measure and monitor pleural and intra-abdominal pressures (IAP).

The compact and sterile single-use Compass devices are said to offer precise and quantitative pressure measurements while removing fluid during thoracentesis and monitoring for intra-abdominal hypertension and abdominal compartment syndrome.

Compass for thoracentesis allows physicians to easily measure pressure when removing fluid during pleural effusion treatment.

The device will also reduce complications associated with too much fluid removal such as reexpansion pulmonary edema.

Compass for IAP supervises bladder pressure, helping to offer early indications of intra-abdominal hypertension.

It easily connects to a standard Foley catheter and does not require complex setup.

Compass platform also includes digital pressure transducers for measuring central venous pressure to assess septic patients, CVC/central line insertion, extremity compartment pressure and lumbar puncture.

Centurion Medical Products president and CEO Tom Archipley said: "Compass continues to demonstrate its leadership capability to solve a wide variety of physiological pressure measurement and monitoring challenges in a single, sterile, disposable device.

"Its applications have an immediate and profound effect on clinicians' ability to detect, treat and prevent potentially deadly outcomes from many diverse conditions.”
