US based medical technology company CareFusion has introduced a new line of laparoscopic scissors, expanding its take-apart laparoscopic surgical instruments product line.

Available in Curved Metzenbaum and Mini-Metzenbaum configurations in both 36 millimeter and 45 millimeter sizes, the new Snowden-Pencer take-apart laparoscopic scissors provides sterile, sharp blades and a new insulated shaft for each surgical procedure.

The product, which is designed for easy assembly and disassembly, also features a reusable ring-handle that fits Snowden-Pencer take-apart clamps, dissectors and graspers, claims the company.

CareFusion said to ensure the new scissors meet customer requirements, the company conducted a limited market release to test the scissors on various surgical materials and for consistent mixed hot and cold cutting without snagging.

Lovelace Westside Hospital bariatric surgeon Ryan Tyner said the new Snowden-Pencer laparoscopic scissors are modular and creates cost-effective approach during surgeries.

"I prefer to use the best instruments for my patients, and my personal opinion is that this is the best line on the market," Tyner added.

The company anticipates that a hook-blade configuration will be available in the market within the next few months.
