US-based medical technology company BD has introduced SiteRite 9, a new ultrasound system that supports clinicians during the vascular access device insertion process.
The SiteRite 9 system is designed to help clinicians effectively place peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), central venous catheters, IV lines and other vascular access devices.
It comes with integrated visualisation tools such as the Cue Needle Tracking System, and the Sherlock 3CG+ Tip Confirmation System.
The Cue Needle tool provides nurses with continuous and real-time needle tracking and Sherlock 3CG+ ensures accurate catheter tip navigation and location.
The ultrasound system also features an updated 15.6-inch touchscreen display for a user-friendly experience and enhanced image quality for catheter placement.

SiteRite 9 is part of BD’s vascular access management portfolio and helps clinicians place a vascular access device, one of the most common invasive hospital procedures.
It leverages ultrasound technology to increase first-attempt insertion success and reduce unnecessary needlesticks.
The ultrasound system comprises smart, connected technologies, such as vessel assessment tools to automatically detect the vessel.
Its smart technologies then pair with vessel measurement tools to help clinicians select the right catheter, ensuring they make an informed decision every time.
The system also comes with additional capabilities such as patient data look-up with information capture, auto-filling and records transfer capabilities to support clinician workflow.
In September this year, the SiteRite 9 ultrasound system received the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) approval and is now commercially available in the US.
