Aesculap, Germany-based manufacturer of surgical instruments and sterilization container systems, has taken over Aragon Surgical, a US based provider of advanced radio frequency (RF) electrosurgical instruments for tissue fusion and cutting.

With this acquisition, Aesculap will also add Aragon’s Caiman advanced energy product line and will be a part of its endoscopic and open surgical instruments porfolio.

Aesculap president Chuck DiNardo said the Caiman’s articulating jaw design and proprietary Lektrafuse technology provide improved clinical benefits.

"This acquisition will widen the scope of our surgical instrument portfolio and enhance Aesculap’s line of products to improve patient care," DiNardo said.

Aragon president and CEO Roseanne Varner said this transaction will allow for increased distribution of the Caiman product line.
