UK-based digital therapeutics provider Exercise Intelligence (EXI) and US-based wellness brand Hyperice have teamed up to provide safe and effective self-care for patients.

EXI is a software as a medical device (SaMD) platform that personalises physical activity for people with long-term health conditions.

Hyperice is engaged in providing advanced technology for the recovery, mobility, and improved performance of muscles and joints.

Under the partnership, Hyperice will offer its Normatec dynamic air compression system through the EXI platform, to provide pain relief for people living with diabetes, and other long-term health conditions.

Normatec has been well-established in elite sports. Its technology is used to enhance dynamic warm-ups and recovery for professional athletes.

Hyperice has recently expanded its product offering to the general population, for increasing circulation and decreasing inflammation in the lower body through its compression boots.

EXI CEO Grace McNamara said: “At present, if clinicians want to provide patients with devices for home monitoring, an ECG holter monitor, for example, it’s on a short-term loan basis and inhibits positive habit changes.

“At EXI, we’ve identified a number of existing high-quality medical-grade consumer products that are backed by science and easy to use.

“By offering Normatec to our consumers, we can promote and support long-standing self-care at home utilizing technology that is backed by science.”

In several peer-reviewed studies, Normatec’s precision pulse technology has shown to offer benefits as diverse as increased range of motion and reduced pain sensitivity.

A single bout of Normatec Pulse compression has shown to improve conduit artery endothelial function systemically, along with RH blood flow in the compressed limbs.

In addition, Normatec Pulse compression is said to have significantly increased the total and oxygenated haemoglobin.

Hyperice CEO Jim Huether said: EXI’s forward-thinking approach effectively combines person-centred consumer technology with healthcare delivered at home, and we’re excited to be part of it.

“The collaboration of technologies, specifically with our Normatec compression systems, represents a win-win for patients and clinicians, supporting improved outcomes for patients within a remotely monitored, self-care model.”
