3M Health Care, through its medical solutions division, has enhanced the delivery of its 3M Veraflo Therapy, a negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) with instillation.

The US medical device firm has rolled out the new 3M Veraflo Cleanse Choice Complete Dressing Kit and upgraded the software for the 3M VAC Ulta Therapy Unit at no additional cost.

Its new offerings are said to help clinicians using Veraflo Therapy to simplify care delivery and make the dressing changes quicker and less painful.

The company said that wound care experts use Veraflo Therapy to clean and stimulate the formation of granulation tissue in patients with open soft tissue wounds.

According to a recent study, Veraflo Therapy showed significant clinical and economic advantages compared to other advanced wound therapies, including traditional NPWT.

The new Veraflo Cleanse Choice Complete Dressing kit, when used together with Veraflo Therapy, is said to help disrupt, soften, solubilise and remove the non-viable tissue.

3M Health Care senior vice president clinical affairs and chief medical officer Ronald Silverman said: “3M offers a broad range of wound care solutions because clinicians need a robust tool selection. We continue to find ways to innovate to meet their unique wound care needs and address the changing nature of wound care.

“Today’s wound care patients are often sicker and have more comorbidities, making their wounds more complex to treat and increasing the demands on clinicians’ time.

“We strive to make our products easier to use to help save clinicians’ valuable time and, ultimately, transform patient outcomes and improve their lives.”

According to the company, its VAC Ulta Therapy Unit is the only NWPT device that enables clinicians to manage open abdomens, closed incisions, and open soft tissue wounds.

The current software upgrade to the device will include the 3M Smart Instill Feature for use with Veraflo Therapy, which automates the therapy initiation and simplifies therapy initiation.

In addition, the upgrade comes with enhanced default therapy settings, animated video troubleshooting, and an instill phase postpone feature.

3M developed its new Veraflo Choice Cleanse Complete Dressing Kit to simplify dressing and reduce the number of products used to manage open soft tissue wounds.

The new kit uses a single-piece dressing, made of 3M Dermatac Drape, which is easier to apply than the current three-piece dressing

Dermatac Drape is built of a unique silicone-acrylic hybrid material that is softer than acrylic drapes on patients’ skin at removal, providing a less painful dressing change experience.
