Terason, Soma win FDA approval for needle visualization technology

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted 510(k) approval to Terason and Soma Access Systems for a new transducer equipped with AxoTrack needle visualization technology.

The combination of ultrasound imaging with needle technology facilitates surgeons by providing real-time needle tracking for various ultrasound-guided procedures.

Soma’s AxoTrack needle visualization technology enables physicians to plot the needle’s trajectory and observe real-time progress as the needle travels through tissue to the intended target.

Terason said it will begin providing the combined technology in the US, beginning from mid-summer, 2012.
