Medseek, the provider of eHealth ecoSystem, has entered into an agreement with UNC Health Care to enhance online experience for UNC Health Care patients.

As the Medseek ecoSystem is vendor-neutral, UNC Health Care will be able to leverage its electronic medical record (EMR), as well as other existing healthcare information system investments. The ecoSystem will combine the EMR and administrative system data with the patient portal to form the foundation of a fully integrated, single-platform system.

Medseek and UNC Health Care said that the system will allow patients, physicians and UNC Health Care staff to share information in a secure, online environment. The timing of the UNC Health Care initiative allowed the health system to take advantage of the unique opportunity.

Matthew Castellano, IT director of revenue cycle systems at UNC Health Care, said: “Patient portal functionality is an integral part of our health care system strategic plan. The fact that our business partner, Rex Healthcare, already has a relationship with Medseek positions our system to move toward a common tool for our patients which will be a great value for our patients and is very exciting. That system-wide consistency should help us create a more powerful solution to improve access to care, as well as patient and employee satisfaction.”

Peter Kuhn, CEO of Medseek, said: “Although UNC Health Care uses a Siemens platform, and its business partner, Rex Healthcare, uses a Cerner platform, Medseek was able to create a consistent patient experience across both entities. Through our collaborative efforts, UNC Health Care will be able to meet its business objectives, leverage technology investments, improve outcomes and still maintain an aggressive timeline.”
