Positron has installed Attrius PET System into the office of Michael Merhige, located within The Heart Center of Niagara, Niagara Falls, New York.

The Attrius is the only PET scanner offered on the market today that is optimised for myocardial perfusion imaging. The Attrius is a standalone full ring PET system, manufactured through Positron’s joint venture, Neusoft Positron Medical Systems.

Tim Gabel, vice president of engineering and operations at Positron, said: “It is exciting to see our vision of a dedicated cardiac PET scanner come to fruition. We are confident that our long term customers, like Merhige, will be pleased to see that their feedback and suggestions have been implemented into the design of the Attrius and that our new customers will enjoy the benefit of over 25 years of experience in clinical PET that the Attrius has to offer.”

Michael Merhige, director of the heart center of Niagara and medical director at Positron, said: “The Attrius is optimised specifically for cardiac imaging, both with generator produced Rb-82, as well as cyclotron produced perfusion tracers. It avoids the layering on of expensive CT technology, which is unnecessary in cardiac PET perfusion imaging and it offers the most advanced cardiac perfusion software, already clinically validated, as standard equipment.

Dr. Merhige, said: “Positron’s Attrius fills a critical vacuum in the care of coronary disease patients, namely the absence of an affordable, optimally accurate, noninvasive perfusion imaging system, which can guide medical and interventional therapy in individual patients. These features and others position the Attrius PET system as a replacement for Spect perfusion imaging”
