A&D Medical announced the launch of the first Continua Certified blood pressure monitor and the first certified weight scale based on Bluetooth wireless technology. This certification increases the number of market-ready, interoperable devices of the Continua Health Alliance ecosystem.

The A&D Medical UA-767PBT-C automatic blood pressure monitor and the UC-321PBT-C precision weight scale were certified as conforming to the Continua Version One Design Guidelines, incorporating the ISO/IEEE 11073 data protocols and the Bluetooth Health Device Profile (HDP). Compliance to the guidelines allows for interoperability between all Continua Certified devices thus enables manufacturers to create health information systems easily and efficiently.

A&D Medical, with these newly certified devices, expands the number of physiological parameters a Continua compliant solution can include.

We are very proud to be able to offer our high-quality devices as part of the Continua Health Alliance ecosystem, said Teruhisa Moriya, President and CEO of A&D Medical. Adding blood pressure and weight measurement functions will greatly increase the utility and capability of Continua telemedicine systems.

We are pleased to see the announcement of two new Continua Certified devices from A&D Medical, said Rick Cnossen, Continua president and chairman of the Board of Directors. The addition of these devices further contributes to Continua’s mission to establish an ecosystem of interoperable personal telehealth solutions, empowering people and organizations to better manage their health and wellness.

A&D Medical’s Bluetooth wireless technology enabled devices help expand the capabilities of the Continua Certified product ecosystem, and will have a significant impact in the remote patient monitoring sector, said Emma Naudo, Market Analyst, IMS Research. Remote patient monitoring technology is vital for the healthcare industry. The availability of interoperable, standards-based, solutions from companies like A&D Medical as part of an ecosystem of devices will be vital to the success of broad remote patient monitoring deployments.

The UA-767PBT series of devices meets ANSI/AAMI SP10 standards and is clinically validated for accuracy. Both the UA-767PBT-C and UC-321PBT-C Continua Certified and Bluetooth wireless technology enabled devices are already available for sale. The company has initiated developing next Continua compliant devices that are expected to be certified later this year.
